I'm Important (2007-10-04)
It is a little know fact that farmers are the greatest negotiators on the face of the earth. Now the big-time city negotiators get all of the press, because they make or save wads of money with their negotiations. But farmers do it just for the love of it. It doesn't matter if it is a horse, a hog, or a bag of feed, a farmer will haggle your arm off. I've watched Ira spend hours negotiating the price of corn seed with Clem, the owner of the Bluff's Feed and Seed. Neither man ever blinks or looses eye contact. It is truly awe-inspiring to see these two artists at work.
The two negotiators in the movie by that name are much the same. Both nogotiators trained in the art of high-tension verbal engagement. Add an interesting mystery, some action and good performances by Samual L. Jackson and Kevin Spacey and your have a fun movie. It was a chance for Sam and Kevin to show the stuff we saw in Pulp Fiction and L.A. Confidential (respectively). They almost reached the same heights, but didn't quite make it. Their Pulp Fiction and L.A. Confidential performances were just too good to be topped in the Negotiator.
The Negotiator is one of those movies that you just can't decide between a rooster or a cow rating. You wish we had a horse rating that fell somewhere in between a rooster and a cow. The movie was a lot of fun, but doesn't quite make it with some of the other roosters. But making a choice is why I have this important position on this web site. I'll give it a rooster.
