The Movie Is Fun, But Still a Cow (2007-10-04)

There is a lost art in movie making. The movie that can appeal to both adults and children with a story that operates on two levels. In the old days, you couldn't mention sex, let alone show it on the big screen. But people were just as interested in it then as they are today. So writers got creative. They would find ways to weave innuendo and sexual tension into the story without ever mentioning it outright. The adults got it. The kids just followed the story and had a good time. The classic example of this at work is the classic Gigi. When I saw it as a kid, I just listened to the music and thought it was a nice love story. Watching it again as an adult I see the 'real' story was of a girl being trained to be the sexual companion to a rich gentleman. I loved it then. I love it now. The Parent Trap tries to pull it off and they get half way there. From a child's perspective, the movie is a blast. Young Linsay Lohan does a great job in the dual roles Anna and Hallie (shades of Haley Mills), the twins who don't know they are twins. It is a great story, well done, and kids will enjoy it. The adult part is a little dull. Disney tried, but you just couldn't get excited about Dennis Quaid and Natasha Richardson getting back together. All you saw for them after the reconcilliation was PTA meetings and Soccer camp. No fire. No passion. Nothing to get an adult interested. Take the kids to see Parent Trap or, better yet, drop them off and go see Negotiator while they watch it. The movie is fun, but it is a cow.

This is a cute, family movie. Lindsay Lohan is adorable as the main character in this movie. It's nice to see her innocent. The adult actors in this movie are very good, too. It's just as well done,... (More)

A Rooster! Excellent Movie (2009-05-10)

I ordered this movie for my daughter. She watched it a couple of times on TV and was fascinated with the story. However there are so many interruptions with commercials that drag it over bedtime. She... (More)
