Bring Your Own Bucket (2008-02-16)

What in the world is going on with Cloverfield? Why would anyone think it's worthwhile to see the whole film through the lens of a handheld camera. It's like trying to read the Famer's Almanac while spinning on the tea-cups at Disneyland. I spent the whole movie feeling sick. The movie itself was nothing special. A monster attacks New York. Wow! Aliens invade. Oh, my. JJ Abrams, the genius behind LOST on television and the new Star Trek movie missed the target with this film. The first 15 minutes were as slow and boring as a movie can be and there was nothing really new except the car-sick style of filming. Now, you must remember that I'm a middle-aged farmer from Iowa, and the masses may love this movie. But I speak it as I see it, and this movie was nothing more than a headache waiting to happen.

Despite the decent special effects and the comparative newness of the film being shown from the viewpoint of a hand held video camera this essentially just an old-fashioned monster movie. For me it... (More)
