It Was a Doosy! (2007-10-01)
Whew! The corn is finally in and I can go to the movies again. I went
nearly two months without seeing a film during harvest and I'm chompin at the bit to get back at it. My granddaughter Meg came to town for the Doyle Bluffs Harvest Fair and I whipped her down to Crow-Corners for a movie this past weekend. We gave up going to the Pig-calling contest with Gomer, touring the Zucchini craft tent, sampling a round of cucumber salads and entering the corn stalk parade, but it was well worth it. Meg chose AntZ, and I must say it was a doosy. It was produced by DreamWorks, Steven Speilburgs new company, and it was very well done. It's a movie about perspective and how things look from different eyes and different angles.
It's about living instead of existing. Z, our main character (voiced superbly by Woody Allen) feels lost in his world, until he takes a chance on love and a chance on life. The computer animation was spectacular and the celebrity voices were a treat. Little Meg loved the cute story and I was very impressed with the entire production.
Good over evil. Movies over Cucumber salad. Rooster!

Woody Allen Is the Man! (2007-10-01)
It was about time that they made a Woody Allen movie for kids. Much of what is appealing about a Woody Allen movie and very little of what is not appealing was present in AntZ. As I have said in other reviews, the best movies for kids operate at two levels. One level that the kids understand with basic human themes of honor, bravery, love, and friendship. The other level is more subtle and appeals to adults. You know. Desire, lust, social rank, non-conformance. AntZ pulls it off.
Its a rooster!

One of Dreamworks' Few Good Ones (2008-10-04)

It's ironic, but 'Antz' may be remembered as the last great Woody Allen comedy. Like Robin Williams in 'Alladin', Z's dialog is so quintessentially Woody Allen that it's hard to believe he didn't... (More)

Not for Kids (2008-07-05)

This movie had a lot of graphic violence, including a war against termites, and a scene of torture. It also had some sexual innuendo. I did not think it was appropriate for children. It was also... (More)

Great Animation, Dull Story. (2008-06-17)

Very pretty to look at. As long as you keep the volume turned off.
Ok, I'm exaggerating.
The story just didn't hold my attention.
This is basically the same movie as "A Bugs Life".... (More)
