I Had a Date (2007-10-04)
|
I had a date. Me. A date. With a guy. Ok, maybe a man. His name is Charles (definitely a man’s name) and he is a regular at the coffee shop. Recently divorced, father of three. (I tell myself I don’t want to have to deal with that kind of baggage… but a person in my position can’t be picky.) He asked me out to a movie while I poured his coffee (Black, no cream, sugar, or milk; A real man’s drink). I said sure- I mean, he’s nice enough, good looking, funny…. 10 years older than me…. So we went- to what turned out to be an AWESOME movie. I mean AMAZING. I wish I could say the same about the date.
This movie is a rooster. The alpha-rooster. The rooster above all my other roosters. At the end of the movie I wasn’t left wondering, I wasn’t left disappointed. I was left satisfied with some great Die Hard action.
I have been obsessed with John McClain’s character since I was a kid. I mean, he’s the perfect good guy and you’re rooting for him the whole time. What sets his character apart from all the other action heroes is his smartass sense of humor. Other cops, superheroes, and action stars might take the job too seriously, and the whole movie you’re just begging them to crack a smile. Bruce Willis hits an amazing medium between the two. He creates a character that you would want to befriend, but never piss off.
The special effects were great- totally believable. Bruce Willis is definitely getting kind of old to be leaping off buildings and out of speeding cars, but he’s still able to pull off that untouchable hero quality- he always makes it through the pain.
This is a movie that allows you to leave the theatre feeling great. Great about the movie, great about yourself, just great. Until your date (who has been sleazily trying to feel you up all night) comments how unrealistic and stupid the entire plot was. I walked home.

Die hard 1 is a classic. Die hard 2 & 3 just plain sucked! I didn't think old Brucey could pull it off again. Then as the movie progressed I found myself laughing more and rooting for him again as I... (More)
