Pure Evil (2007-10-01)
Evil. Pure evil. I could be talking about the nasty creatures who may take over the world in The X-Files movie, or I may be speaking of the producers who lured Gomer and I to this movie and had us pay good money for this TV show. I suppose that missing every X-file episode on television for 4 years did not help, but I felt like the movie was in pig latin. It could pick up a bit here and there, but mostly it is gibberish. It was like the director, and actors and loyal viewers knew the secrets, but everyone else was left out on the front porch. No thanks. The movie was well shot with good special effects, thought Gomer had a good point that every alien is always covered in goo. The actors seem capable, but the plot not only missed my side of the barn, it bypassed my entire farm.
Sadly, the X-Files reminded me of a day fishing with Gomer. My hands are always covered in goo, from Gomer's worm pail. Gomer is always talking to himself about his secret bait and at times even speaking directly to the lake. The fish seem to be plotting a conspiracy to only jump on Gomer's hook, and the whole experience leaves me unsatisfied.
I'll have to give this film a cow. The cow is thin, sickly and needs its hooves trimmed, but still a cow.

Mooooooo (2007-10-01)
It is a little know fact that the X in "The X Files" is short for molasses. Why? Because the evil creature in every episode is covered with it. Now I will admit to only seeing two or three episodes of the television show, but one thing was common to them all. The creature being chased by Mulder and Skully was always covered in gross brown sticky substance. The movie is no exception.
Another little know fact is that the gross brown sticky stuff is made by a Home Economics class at Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa just west of Doyle Bluffs. The X Files producers had a contest between the Chemistry departments at major Universities across the country to determine who could make the most gross brown sticky substance. Mary Pastich put too much molasses in a batch of ginger snaps and her boyfriend sent it to California and won the contest.
In general, I found "The X Files" movie a bit tedious. I wasn't a fan when I started so whether or not Mulder and Skully kissed really didn't matter much to me. It seemed an awful lot like a two hour TV episode with slightly better special effects.
Now I did enjoy watching Mulder and Skully work together. Their characters were interesting and they had great chemistry. The movie also succeeded in another respect. It got us talking and wondering. As Ira and I left the theater, we kept asking each other questions. What did this mean? What did that mean? Why didn't we watch something else? You might like The X Files is you are a fan, but I don't recommend it otherwise. It is a cow. Moooooo.
