Not Your Fathers Planet of the Apes (2007-10-01)
I drove to Des Moines today to pick up some fence posts. As I was driving past the mall, I realized that Planet of the Apes was opening today. I popped into the theatre and sat down. I was thinking back to 1968 when I took Gomer to see the original movie with Charlton Heston. Gomer was home from college and we went to the old drive-in over by Clarinda. It was quite an adventure and we had not seen anything like it before. The make-up, the music, the story. It was great. I wasn’t disappointed with the new Tim Burton re-make. The costumes were unbelievable and the first scene in the woods gave me the same chill as the original cornfield chase.
Tim Roth, playing the ape general is fantastic and dominates every scene he is in. He drips with evil and keeps you captivated by his character. I loved the cameo by Heston in this new version. The apes are much more realistic in this film and the movie takes a much different approach than the first. It was well worth the long summer wait.
The action is constant and the movie is both fun and interesting to watch. Burton does a great job of turning this classic film into a new gem. Rooster.

An Entertaining Misfire (potential SPOILER Alert) (2009-05-29)

I was horrified when I first learned that Hollywood was attempting to cash in by remaking yet another film classic that had been done perfectly the first time.
Ironically, this kind of... (More)
